The Victorian government has enlisted the help of celebrity chef Jamie Oliver to help provide information on healthy eating habits.
Oliver is currently in Australia for the local launch his Ministry of Food program, which will aim to provide cooking classes to more than 10,000 people across 14 communities a year.
The initiative includes a mobile kitchen, which will travel between the communities identified as the most overweight in the state as part of the government's Victorian Healthy Eating Enterprise.
The Oliver empire currently operates two ministries in the US and seven in England, as well as one in the Queensland town of Ipswich.
"I think it’s very important for all Victorians … to recognise that there is good value in having a healthy diet, good value in having a healthy lifestyle and exercising," premier Ted Baillieu said today (March 6).
For those who are unable to make it to the Ministry of Food, assistance in establishing a healthy lifestyle is still available.
Some health insurance plans offer wellbeing programs that incorporate advice on diet and exercise. Those people that have significant health risk factors can get access to health fund programs supported by trained dieticians.
"This is a great opportunity to change the face of Australia's health for the better," Oliver added.
